The team has currently returned from the hurricane deployment for "Irene" and are staged at their home base.  The team and its members maintain  a state of readiness for future activations and mission assignments.

Hurricane "IRENE"
(CAT 2 Hurricane)

Threatens the eastern coastline of North & South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, New York City, New Jersey, Delaware, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine, & Massachusetts

Virginia Task Force 2 Urban Search & Rescue Team has been activated as of 1400 hrs. today by the Department of Homeland Security and will be staging in a safe area, until directed to move forward as the storm passes through the effected areas.  The task force was activated as a Type 1 Team, with a compliment of 80+ personnel with various specialties and expertise in urban search and rescue operations, ready and willing to handle whatever designated mission or assignment as directed by their operational authorities.

8/26/2011 @ 1400 hrs.

Virginia Task Force 2 activated for Hurricane "IRENE" and will be staging until directed to move forward as the storm passes through the effected areas.  Additional information on the teams status will be made available as information is received from the teams task force leaders.  Please be patient as the team gets organized and settled into their environment.

VATF-2 is currently staged in the Virginia Beach area awaiting orders from command and the operations desk.  All deployed members are doing well, and just standing by waiting patiently.  Further detailed information will be provided when it's made available.  Thanks!

VATF-2 has been redirected to New Jersey, where they'll be catching a flight to Massachusetts.  Further detailed information will be provided when it's made available and contact with the team can be obtained.  Thanks!

Update:   VATF-2 is currently staged in New Jersey awaiting orders for further assignments.  The team is holding their position in New Jersey at this time, pending the decision to move them forward.  The team spent the day training and visiting the training site for NJTF-1 Strike Team, which they found to be very interesting and informative.  All team members are doing well and patiently awaiting for their next assignment.  Further detailed information will be provided when it's made available.  Thanks!

Update (continued):   VATF-2 is currently staged at Naval Air Support Station Lakehurst, NJ for possible deployment to the Northeast states for flooding issues associated with Hurricane "Irene."  Again, All team members are doing well and patiently awaiting for their next assignment.  Further detailed information will be provided when it's made available.  Thanks!

8/30/2011 @ 1200 hrs.

VATF-2 is currently being demob'd and heading home.  They expect to be home around 7:00-8:00 pm this evening.

Contact with the team indicated that they were currently in Maryland heading our way and should be home in Virginia Beach within less than 2 hours, putting them arriving home at about 8:00-8:30pm.
